scioly basics
how do tryouts work?
The tryout process for FHS Scioly begins during Club Week at the club fair, where interested students fill out an interest form and attend club meetings for more information. The process starts with an after-school Google Form test, and students who pass move on to library study sessions where their study habits, consistency, and efficiency are observed. After this, students participate in FOMO (Foothill Open Mock Olympiad), an unofficial competition with other schools that helps prepare the team early in the season. Final team selections are made about a week after FOMO, and students who are selected become official members of Science Olympiad.
Who is a part of fhs SciOly?
FHS Science Olympiad is made up of selected members from 9th through 12th grade, along with our dedicated student officers. Our officers plan all team logistics and events, including in-person, travel, and satellite competitions, as well as FOMO and Bootcamp. Officers also help manage overall team operations and decide event placements. While both the A and B teams compete at invitationals, our A team is prioritized and consists of more experienced members, while our B team is mainly made up of newer members and underclassmen who are still building their skills. We also hold weekly study sessions and multiple team bonding opportunities throughout the year, which has made our team very tight-knit and a second family for many of our members.
what invitationals do we attend?
Every year, we attend GGSO (Golden Gate Science Olympiad) held at Stanford, GullSO in Castro Valley, and Regionals at CSU East Bay. In past seasons, we have also attended NUSO (Northwestern University Science Olympiad Invitational) and the USC Invitational held at the University of Southern California. Additionally, we participated in four satellite competitions over the course of our '25-26 season.
